What our volunteers say

 Ruksana, Youth Quake Volunteer

“Volunteering with NSDT has opened up a lot of doors for me”

I volunteered with the Youth Quake for two years from 2014 to 2016. I decided to volunteer for NSDT, because I always wanted to become a Learning Mentor for young people, and I needed to get relevant work experience.

At the time, I was studying Social Care and Social Policy and the volunteering fitted really well with my studies.

As a volunteer, I was involved with supporting the young people that attended the Youth Quake club for girls. I used to have confidence issues, and I thought I might not be able to encage with young people.

Through my volunteering and the support I got from my mentor, I was able to gain confidence and new skills and realise that I can do it!

Volunteering with NSDT has opened up a lot of doors for me – I am now working as a Teaching Assistant at a school and also as a Play Worker at the Breakaway club at NSDT during the school holidays.

The staff at NSDT have been very supportive and friendly, and I would recommend volunteering at NSDT for anyone!

Rebecca, Youth Quake Volunteer

“Volunteering with NSDT has increased my confidence, awareness of health and safety, communication skills and team working”

I volunteered as a Youth Quake volunteer for NSDT for two years. I decided to volunteer for NSDT as I wanted to take part in projects which bring the people from the community together, as well as taking part in different activities to build or develop skills.

I really enjoyed being able to participate in different projects and see the young women develop skills that may be beneficial for them in the future.

Volunteering with NSDT increased my confidence, awareness of health and safety, communication skills and team working.

I would recommend volunteering with NSDT for others.
